Hi. my name is Andy Akehurst and sole owner and instructor of Swift Driver Training, I started my driving instructor training in 1998, at the time I had my own catering business, and I felt I needed a change. I saw an advert that said “ Do you like driving, do you like working with people, would you like to run your own business” my answer to all of these was yes. I started my training, and did not look back. I had two years with the training company, and got my full green licence for being a driving institutor in 1999, and started my own Driving School “Swift Driving” in 2000. I had many hundreds of students over the next 28 + years, with great success, then came Covid, this was a hard time for many driving instructors, one week we could teach the next we could not, so it was very unsettling, I was very lucky to get offered a full time job doing something very different, so very reluctantly I took the job, and stopped my driving tuition and my driving school, which was a very hard thing to do. Over the next couple of years, I really missed helping people to learn to to drive, and missed getting to know people over the few months I was helping them with their driving, and I missed the satisfaction of seeing people start totally from scratch, with their driving, going on to pass their driving test, and getting jobs because of it. So in October 2024, I very happily started back as “Swift Driver Training Eastbourne” with my Automatic Toyota Yaris Hybrid. I have really enjoyed getting back out on the road, and doing what I do best, and helping people learn to drive again. Since having the Automatic car I have had the great pleasure in helping more pupils with learning difficulties and pupils that have struggled in a manual car. I hope I can now carry on Driving Instructing in and around the Eastbourne area for the foreseeable future.
